Description of this Storywalk provided by the Friends of Country Grounds:

Beginning March 1, Friends of County Grounds Park, with the support of the Wauwatosa Youth Commission, will install a Storywalk along a path in Sanctuary Woods featuring the book The Tree in the Courtyard by Jeff Gottesfeld. This is one of our featured children’s books for this year. It tells the tale of a special tree that could be seen from Anne Frank’s window when her family was in hiding. The Storywalk is a fun way to expose your kids to reading and get out in nature at the same time. Come prepared for the weather and a potentially muddy trail.

The storybook walk can be accessed from the parking lot in the center of the park (top left of the image). From 87th and Watertown Plank Road go north, then west, 0.5 miles on 87th Street and park at the blue square “P.” Hike a block, back east to a gravel road that goes south. The trail quickly veers left (east) again into the woods.

On this map, the black SOLID line shows the 12-sign storybook walk. The black DOTTED line shows a possible path back, or continue your forest adventure! For those familiar with the forest, the circle “3” is the men’s pavilion. The circle “7” is the women’s stairs.
